Cortisol is a hormone produced by the adrenal glands. Cortisol has several functions, it regulates the body’s metabolism of sugar, fat and protein. In addition, cortisol suppresses inflammation. In acute stressful situations, cortisol can help you perform better, both physically and mentally, but in the long term, high levels can be harmful. However, it is important to understand that your level of cortisol is not only related to your stress level.
